The Everyday Ring
A self-led, online course
Detailing the process of bezel-making, stone setting, and creating a split and open ring shank (along with 2 bonus shanks), this course will guide you step-by-step through each technique to create professional-level heirloom quality rings, and leave you feeling confident and ready to add them to your collections.
I Know I Want InSo. Much. Metal. Wasted.
LET ME ASK YOU THIS: HAVE YOU EVER SOLDERED SOMETHING AND AFTERWARD IT SEEMS TO SHRINK?
You measured properly, everything fit, it all lined up- and then POOF, now it’s too small. This used to happen to me *all the time*- I wish I was exaggerating, but it’s true. I would painstakingly measure everything, check and recheck - take it under the flame, only to be left with a ring or bezel that was too small. I was completely confused and honestly, pretty angry.
This was especially true for open ring shanks. I couldn't get them right, sizing them was an insane process, and forming them took forever.
I go at things until I fully understand them- regardless of failure- and this was one of those things. I refused to quit- I wanted to add split and open ring shanks to my collections and nothing was going to stop me.
After all of the experimenting and the pieces that didn't work, I FINALLY figured it out. I learned the secret to creating and sizing open ring shanks and bezels so that they’re the perfect size, AND they don’t “shrink” when I solder them. Now I’m going to teach you how to do it too.

I think that there are a few things in particular that smiths struggle with on their journey to mastery; these are some that I have experienced myself and witnessed in others:
Building bezels (the right height, width, and without marring)
Setting stones properly (with or without angles and points- but definitely with)
Professional-level ring shank building, soldering, and finishing
Refining and polishing to a bright mirror finish (instead opting for the “rustic” look which can really just mean “I don’t know how to make it any other way”)
Until one day, they didn't.
That “one day” came after selling pieces in which the stones had fallen out in the customers hands- I was mortified and it happened more than once.
When I first wanted to learn how to make open ring shanks I took a course- well, I took two of them, and I STILL didn't get it.
I had guidance, I had videos, I had the recipe for success and yet I was still coming up short and wasting my time and metal (and patience) on learning how to incorporate split and open ring shanks into my work
I didn't love the way that I was taught- it was confusing, the shanks didn't fit comfortably, and there was solder *everywhere*. I could see other smiths working with open shanks, so I knew that it was possible, but the answer seemed to escape me.
I had taken all the right steps- hours of research, taking courses, experimentation and practice
The knowledge was there, but it hadn’t landed- not even close
My only option was to keep going- I wanted to add this style to my work, and I wouldn't take no for an answer.
Then *finally* after many failed attempts, it clicked. I got it! I had learned how to create split and open ring shanks in a way that MADE SENSE and was REPEATABLE. My shanks fit every time, and they were always the right size. I took bits of what I learned from my teachers and created my own method of sizing and fabricating that worked for me and produced a 100% success rate.
When I first learned to split ring shanks it was with special wire (which I teach inside of the statement ring ) but I wanted to take the idea even further. It wasn't groundbreaking, but it was a process that I couldn't find any knowledge about online
How to split regular old wire that I always had on hand, and create open shanks with ease.
Back to the drawing board, but this time it was a bit easier- I figured it out, and did so again with an incredibly high success rate.
All of the successes and failures of learning about setting stones, building bezels, and creating ring shanks taught me massive lessons. Ones that I could then turn around and teach others- all in a clear, direct, and actionable way.
It’s my hope that in sharing all of my knowledge, that you get to avoid the same failure rate that I encountered and quantum leap on your path to mastery.
Ok, I'm INHow is the everyday ring different ?
The Everyday Ring Course is different from another you may find, because it’s the first I’ve ever seen that compiles all of these techniques into one course.
Inside you learn how to:
- Build a bezel
- Set a stone (with angles)
- Create a ring shank
- Split that ring shank
- Size an open shank properly
- Single open shank
- Continuous shank
AND create a flush bezel. (don’t even get me started on polishing!)
Typically in other courses you would see ring building shown as:
- Build a bezel (some even skip this and tell you to buy a bezel cup and a calibrated stone)
- Build a continuous circle ring shank (no bonuses)
- Put them together
- Set the stone
The Everyday Ring Course highlights all of the details involved in building bezels for any cabochon with a uniform height, the type of bezel wire that is easiest to use and has longevity, plus carefully covering the process of bezel-setting stones with standard and non-marring tools. The course goes over the exact steps to create a split and open ring shank without the need for crazy soldering or special wire to achieve a mess free shank attachment and perfect fit.
The most exciting aspect of this course is that you will leave feeling confident in your ability to set stones and to create any size ring shank in the open and split style (along with single-open and continuous), with accuracy EVERY TIME.
No special tools required
From bezel to polish- this course covers every step.
How is The Everyday RIng Course different? Because I deeply desire to see you succeed, teach with clear and thorough direction, and don't gatekeep technique.

Add split ring shanks to your technical toolbelt and bezel set stones like a pro
The process of creating and sizing open/split ring shanks is not one that is innately intuitive- it takes time to figure it out or guidance from someone who has already walked the path. Working with split ring shanks and angled stones is such a fun way to add interest to your pieces, and once you learn how, it’s a simple and easy process to master.
Take all that I have learned and make a ring with me in just 2 hours.
